Experience Overview
A historical and nature walk guided by a local along the perimeter of the cliff of Orvieto, a circular loop of about 5 km starting and ending in Piazza Cahen, where geology, nature, and traces of an ancient Etruscan and medieval past.
The itinerary begins in the fortress gardens before descending the ancient road beneath the imposing Porta Soliana. The route includes stops at particularly scenic and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the lush green countryside below.
You will walk beneath the steep, striking vertical tufa cliffs that support the city, passing through wooded stretches of ancient chestnut trees and bamboo groves, as well as urban areas, walking alongside the ancient Etruscan necropolis and the historic medieval aqueduct.
The path features gentle climbs and descents with some steep sections; suitable clothing and hiking shoes are required.
