The Quartiere (district) Corsica trail is approximately 1.5 km long, starting from Piazza Cahen, the area where St. Patrick’s Well and the remains of the Etruscan Temple of Belvedere are located, and ascending along Via Roma. This trail is called “Antiquity and Modernity” precisely because it winds through the city streets, passing by modern architectural features such as the former Piave barracks and the Montegrappa barracks, as well as other elements reminiscent of antiquity.
A prime example of this blend of ancient and modern is the Labirinto di Adriano (Via della Pace), an underground site along the trail featuring modern tuff sculptures and Etruscan cavities and wells. The majestic Palazzo del Popolo in Piazza del Popolo (near the end of the trail) itself is medieval in origin, but today its interior is equipped with modern conference facilities.
