About an hour from Orvieto, just outside the city of Terni you will find the famous Marmore waterfalls (Roman origin), generated by the jump of the Velino river to the underlying Nera river. The jump of about 170 meters of Velino makes it the highest waterfall in Europe. The green area around the waterfall is equipped with five different routes of varying dificulty. They allow you to walk side by side with the water, offering panoramic evocative views. For sports lovers the most extreme rafting starts right from the foot of the waterfall and continues the path of the river.
On the return journey from Terni to Orvieto, you can also opt for a detour to Narni, visiting another evocative scenic area where water also plays a key role. In particular, near the small village of Stifone, the Nera River creates a small oasis (Le Mole di Narni) with crystal-clear waters of a unique turquoise color. In the past, this area housed a sort of “shipyard” where the Romans apparently built their boats.
