{"id":25525,"date":"2016-09-12T10:39:47","date_gmt":"2016-09-12T08:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.orvietoviva.com\/nuovosito\/storia-dell-orvietan\/"},"modified":"2020-02-18T10:53:44","modified_gmt":"2020-02-18T09:53:44","slug":"liqueur-orvietan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.orvietoviva.com\/en\/liqueur-orvietan\/","title":{"rendered":"The &#8220;Orvietan&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A curiosity about Orvieto linked to the production of &#8220;drinks&#8221; is that of &#8220;<strong><em>Orvietan<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;: a sweet compound that was said to have healing properties, a real elixir against diseases, a real &#8220;universal remedy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This compound was invented by this <em>Girolamo Ferranti<\/em> from Orvieto (called Orvietano) and subsequently the Orvietan secret recipe was handed down to new &#8220;Orvietans&#8221; who inherited it with exclusive sales rights. Among them such Christopher Contugi who proposed the compound nothing less to the French king Louis XIV, the famous &#8220;Sun King&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The appreciation of the powerful French king facilitated the popularity of Orvietan throughout Europe to the point of being mentioned in a comedy by Moli\u00e8re as well.
