Vacation in Orvieto

italy map orvietoThanks to Orvieto’s location between Rome and Florence, and on the borders of northern Lazio (Tuscia area) and southern Tuscany it offers the opportunity to be a perfect holiday destination for all kinds of tourism.

The city is well connected by car using the A1 motorway (an hour from Rome and two from Florence) and not far from the E45 which takes you to Perugia, Assisi and the Trasimeno lake in about an hour.

Orvieto is also well connected to the national train network being, the station is on the Rome-Milan route. The train station is easily accessible and well connected to the historic center thanks to the rapid and practical funicular that takes only few minutes to reach the center.

The great heritage of art and history of Orvieto, its unique monuments such as the Duomo and the Pozzo di San Patrizio, and the presence of numerous museums make this Umbrian city an ideal place for lovers of art and cultural tourism as well as local culinary traditions that attract those in search of good food and traditional typical products like extra virgin olive oil and wine.

For those who love nature and sports there is no shortage of routes and trails, the natural parks of Mount Peglia and Villalba are about one half hour from the city, while in a few miles you can reach the Tiber River Park, Corbara lake (for fishing) and Bolsena lake (well-equipped with facilities, beaches for swimming and sailing).

Orvieto also offers different types of accommodation, from hotels and B&B’s in the historical center, refined farmhouses and country resorts,  and private villas with pool set in the enchanting countryside around the tufa rock.
